It has a bit higher of a learning curve maybe, but once you get it I'd argue it isn't quite as hard as it looks. Andrew may have some further good ideas on what the heck its doing as I don't know how to troubleshoot NFS on BSD underneath freenas yet. Tech, Food, Music, and every now and then, something worth learning. Our old guide used FreeNAS 7, which is great, but the new FreeNAS 8 makes installing plugins for BitTorrent, media streaming, Usenet, and other tasks much easier. Not interested in FreeNAS assemblying own hardware? I plan to install Windows Server 2012 for home use, build a ridiculously overcomplicated home network for educational purposes, and try to learn from it. Still learning, but will try not to restart my diskless box unless I absolutely have to. But like I said, I think FreeNAS 7 was still really complicated. Posted in HP Microserver: Hello Everyone,I finally picked up an N40L to use as a FreeNAS box and am have been learning a lot from the forums. If you want to check out FreeNAS 7—now called NAS4Free—you can still view our old guide here. In the end, once you pass the learning curve, what's really important is the performance and features of each.
